Hello friends!

Imagine if someone told you they knew of a secret that could potentially help you achieve your dreams. What if I told you that people who knit hold this secret. We Are Knitters are aware of a secret, that through knitting not only are they able to create what they envisioned, but they also know that the same principles that they use to create a sweater out of yarn applies to all areas of their life. It is through knitting that you realize that you can achieve your dreams. I am a strong believer that people who knit are more successful in life especially when it comes to starting their own business.

As Melnie Falick said: “In a ball of yarn is the potential to make a dream that you have come true.” This is what knitting has done for me, I believe that knitting has taught me the skills needed to start and run a successful business. As a knitter, one has to be patient, accept failure and come up with a quick resolution when things don’t go as planned. These are the qualities every successful entrepreneur should possess.  Because of this reason I am really excited to share this blog post with you of how knitting has taught me skills needed to run a successful fashion blog as a business.

I attended third grade in Germany, and this is when I first learned how to knit and crochet. It was part of the German school curriculum to learn how to knit/crochet. At that time, I did not see the importance of knitting and how it would benefit me later in life. In reality, I thought that it was kind of bizarre that they wanted to teach us how to knit instead of something that is more important. Now, as a business owner and blogger I finally realize, how knitting is important. It teaches you to be creative, but even more than that, it teaches you that you can do anything you put your mind to.

For a third grader knitting is extremely challenging, but I remember the feeling of accomplishment I felt when I first learned how to knit. The idea of me creating something out of simple yarn was so magical.

Just like Melanie Felick said how with a ball of yarn you can make your dreams come true. I think that is what appealed to me about knitting. I could envision something and I could make it come to life, proving to myself that I am the creator of my dreams. If I want to achieve something then it is in my hands, and my hands alone to make it happen.

When you knit the concept is simple you take a ball of yarn and you create anything you wish. This is the same concept I used to help me start my blog and turn it into a successful career.  I gathered everything I needed to start a blog and I just started it, without knowing how it will turn out. Just like with knitting you won’t know what your design will turn out like until you start knitting.

Knitting also subliminally trains your brain to come up with solutions, and that there is no mistake that cannot be reversed. Some people run into obstacles in their life, and just instantly think that is the end, that there is nothing they can do to fix it. Knitters know that anything can be fixed and saved, and if it can’t then you don’t give up. There were many times when I missed a stitch and created a gap on accident. I knew not to beat myself over it, and just to continue and figure it out later how to fix the gap.

We Are Knitters and we are not Quitters, we don’t quit that easily when we have our mind made up of knitting something. This quality is something that will be useful in all of your areas of life, especially starting and running a business. As a blogger, I have experienced many challenges, but having a knitters heart and spirit is what keeps me going.

When something doesn’t go as planned in your life or business, most people become overwhelmed and anxious. A knitter will come up with a resolution quickly if something didn’t go as planned. The mind of a knitter always amazes me of how fast they think of a solution to resolve a problem.

Before you start a knitting project, you might feel a little scared and not knowing if you will do it correctly, and if you will be able to complete the project. In running a business, it is the same, before you start a business you will feel scared as well, but just like with knitting the more time you put in the more you will become successful at it.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced knitter, at We Are Knitters we all join a big family of people who want the same things as us; which is to be able create their dreams with one stitch at a time.

The lessons I learned with knitting could not have been taught in any business or entrepreneurship class. Knitting has taught me the skills needed to run a successful business. To be a knitter you must be patient, accept failure, and learn how to come up with a resolution when something doesn’t go as planned.

xo, Emily

I love that you knit, it’s not something a lot of people do any more. You are also extremely talented. I crochet some. It is something that My grandma learned, who taught my mom, and my mom taught me. Maybe one day my daughter will let me teach her.
